For their biennial appearance at House of Books, Tanuki (Japan) have compiled six different titles on which they have been working since their last presentation. In this selection, we encounter a new release by artist Shin Hamada, whom we already know from A Rock, A Paper, A Wind. His new documentary photobook records the process of creating the book itself. The publication by photographer Marisa Suda recounts ten years of photography throughout the course of a single day. Carpenter and artist Takaaki Mitsui provides in Kotoba no Take Off a collection of short essays.
Whilst these first three titles are published under the label Danryu, the publishing project ETL-LAB – which explores the various boundaries of art and focuses on Art Brut, outsider art and self-taught art – complements the selection with publications by artists S.H. and M’onma.
Last but not least the publication Montessori Architecture, published by millegraph – an independent publishing house and editorial studio specializing in architecture and art – is the Japanese reedition of Montessori Architecture: A Design Instrument for Schools by architects Steve Lawrence and Benjamin Stæhli, designed by Studio Nadine Wüthrich and published by Park Books in 2023.
As different this six publications are in form and content as similar they are in their charming beauty, all of them carefully designed and produced with utmost precision.
Tanuki is a Tokyo-based graphic design studio run by Genki Abe, focussing on collaboration and on the dialogue in the process of designing. Their design is inspired by laughter and humor.
