Asami Togawa will present her latest work Cliff House as well as books created since 2021 and some sculptures. She takes inspiration from every place she goes to create her work. She travels with her books and in search of new inspiration.
On her working with books, she writes: I have been making books since 2021, which serve as a collection of my work, a documentation of my creative process and a journal for ideas. Working with designers and many others has taught me a lot about bookmaking and has influenced me.
It is very important for artists to document their work. I believe that publishing this documentation in a book allows for a different kind of presentation than an exhibition. In my recent work, my creative process is based on research. This results in ‘by-products’ whose documentation becomes particularly important to me through books.
As I use materials from the neighbourhood and landscapes for collages and sculptures in my artistic practice, I consider the process of collecting, editing and layering documents when making books to be a familiar way of working.
